The University of Montemorelos has signed an agreement with the municipality for an intentional community impact on health

The leaders of the University of Montemorelos recently signed an agreement with the leaders of the government of General Terán, Nuevo León, Mexico, as part of a collaboration to provide health and well-being to communities in need. This is the first time the university has partnered with the district and the third of its kind among municipalities close to campus, university officials said.

The agreement stipulates that different community impact programs will be established by the government and the university each year from 2021 to 2024, which will involve the collaboration of human resources, materials, finances, knowledge and technical and academic resources. , respectively, said Roel Cea. , MD, director of the University of Health Promotion, based at the University of Montemorelos.

“With this agreement, the University of Montemorelos will be able to develop a plan for the entire municipal district as an administrative unit of liaison with the government, responsible for decision-making, problem solving, planning, development, coordination and project management with projects, ”said Dr Cea. Emphasis will be placed on providing comprehensive health and mental health support. The projects to be carried out will focus on sustainable development objectives, with particular emphasis on health promotion, the Cea said.

Jonathan Sánchez Quintanilla, president of the municipal district of General Terán, spoke at the signing of the agreement. He thanked the university leaders for their valuable partnership efforts to help a population of over 14,000 people in the region. “We want to work hand in hand to be part of this team to change the healthcare system, not only for this period, but I hope this teamwork will last a lifetime,” Sánchez said.

Prior to the signing of the agreement on October 5, 2021, Dr Ismael Castillo, President of the University of Montemorelos, said: “The importance of health is fundamental to the well-being of the populations of the community, and we are very grateful to the [municipal] region because we were able to develop a mission and work with government authorities and believe the time has come to work with such leaders to help improve the health of the population.

For years, the University of Montemorelos, together with its professionals and students, has provided similar assistance to the communities of the municipalities of Allende and Montemorelos. The university recently renewed agreements for the next few years – until 2024 – with the municipalities of Allende and Montemorelos.

The university will work with community-based projects that will include their impact interventions to eliminate preventable blindness, cavities and diabetes, as well as initiatives to bring mental health to families, help young addicts and promote healthy lifestyles. thanks to the church I want to live healthy initiative.
