By Zoila Palma: Today, the Minister of Health and Welfare, Michel Chebat, and the Director General, Dr Deysi Mendez, received Dr David Rodriguez, the Executive Secretariat of the Council of Ministers of Health of Central America ( SE-COMISCA) and Dr Mariangeli Freitas, advisor and specialist in infectious diseases in the regional office of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).
Dr Rodriguez is the Principal Investigator of the Global Health Cooperation Agreement within COMISCA based in El Salvador.
Dr Freitas is a technical advisor and infectious disease specialist at the Regional Office of Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), based in Guatemala.
The ministry says the two doctors are in Belize to provide training and support the implementation of the first cohort of frontline training as part of the Field Epidemiology Training Program (FETP) piloting the One Health approach.
Sectors of the Kolbe Foundation, Belize Defense Force, Animal Health and Department of Health officials participate in these training sessions.
The Ministry of Health and Welfare expresses its gratitude for the global health cooperation agreement with COMISCA for the continued support in strengthening regional health security in public health laboratories, epidemiological surveillance, human resource development, response to health emergencies and implementation of international health.
