New Canaan Health Community Director’s COVID Update

Tonight, Thursday, March 3rd New Canaan Health Director Jenn Eielson provided a community COVID update reporting 17 positive cases of COVID-19, the same case number we had for all of last week. The Ministry of Health continues to offer vaccination clinics and has scheduled COVID 19 vaccination clinics for all ages 5 and up to tuesday march 8and at Vine Cottage (yellow house next to City Hall-77 Main Street) from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Thursday, March 10and at Irwin House in Irwin Park (848 Weed Street) from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

When registering, please indicate in the comments section of SignUpGenius your type of vaccination (Moderna, Pfizer or J&J) and please bring the required one-page form completed with your blank vaccination records at your recall appointment. As a reminder, Pfizer is the only vaccine approved by the FDA EUA for 5-17 year olds.

Boosters are available for anyone aged 12 and over and it has been at least 5 months since the second dose for people aged 12 to 17 and over. People between the ages of 5 and 15 must have a parent present in addition to the required forms.

The Ministry of Health continues to provide home vaccinations for those who need a booster dose at home due to medical, physical or other restrictions. Please call the health department at 203-594-3020 to schedule a home vaccination.

COVID-19 TEST

Next week, we will continue our weekly community PCR COVID-19 testing partnership with Progressive Diagnostics for residents who have traveled or wish to be tested. The progressive diagnosis COVID-19 PCR testing (for New Canaan residents only) will be enabled Monday March 7and, Wednesday March 9E and Friday March 11and 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Irwin House in Irwin Park (848 Weed Street). Pre-registration is required and you must bring your insurance card and photo ID to your exam appointment. You must complete a separate registration for each person to be tested. Your insurance will be charged a $100 lab fee by Progressive Diagnostics. No walk-ins are permitted. The turnaround time for PCR test results is the same day as the test with a maximum of 24 hours and will be received by email in the lab portal, for which you will receive instructions on how to access your testing appointment.

There continues to be free rapid COVID-19 antigen test available during regular business hours with our Health Department at Vine Cottage (77 Main St.) for symptomatic New Canaan residents by appointment. Please note that these are not individual home test kits; these are commercial rapid test kits that must be reported to the CT DPH. Please call the Health Department during regular business hours Monday through Friday to schedule a rapid test at 203-594-3037.

CT WIZ PUBLIC PORTAL FOR VACCINATION RECORDS

Residents who have been vaccinated can access their vaccination records online through the CT WiZ public portala free service provided by the state CT DPH immunization program. [A press release can be found here.] The CT WIZ digital folder also provides a QR code for those who need it for travel.

Vaccinated adults and legal guardians can access official vaccination records for themselves and children under 18 using the public CT WiZ portal with “two-factor authentication” to verify their identity.
