Department of Health shuts down COVID reporting

Todd PittengerFebruary 26, 2022

In a few weeks, the Saline County Health Department will stop reporting COVID numbers and reduce its COVID efforts.

According to the agency, they will end regular reporting on “COVID by the Numbers” on March 9. At this point, the Saline County COVID Dashboard will also be removed.

The agency said that during the end of its public reporting, it will continue to provide COVID services as needed and within its capabilities.

Since the start of the pandemic, much of the health service staff, time and resources have been diverted to fighting the pandemic. They say many longstanding and valuable programs provided by the Department of Health have not received the attention they deserve during this time. Staff look forward to a renewed focus on non-COVID programs and services.

The purpose of the public reports was to give the public an accurate understanding of COVID in Saline County. Welcome changes like reliable home testing mean the reported data is less reflective of the bigger picture. Additionally, the Kansas Department of Health and Environment has resumed all new COVID case investigations.
