Mental Health First Aid is running a Community Youth Mental Health Course in Brenham.
The class takes place at the Nancy Carol Roberts Memorial Library on Mondays from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Currently, one in five teens or youth struggles with a mental health problem, over 64% of teens with depression do not receive treatment, and 5% of teens admit to having a drug or alcohol problem.
The course teaches how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illness and addiction in young people ages 6-18.
The course will give adults who work with young people the skills they need to reach out and provide initial support to children and young people to help them get the right care.
The class is recommended for teachers, coaches, parents, camp counsellors, school staff, youth group leaders and anyone who works with young people.
Space for the Community Youth Mental Health Course is limited and registration is required. To register, contact Angie Bates at [email protected], or call 979-279-2798.
